Mark Cowpersmith (a mentor) made clear to me a couple of years ago that sickness is a trophy of Satan.  Shortly after someone is healed, the affected person will often feel a symptom of the previous infirmity.  The purpose of this symptom is to cause the person to doubt that a genuine healing ever occurred, resulting in a reversal of the healing.  This is preventable by not allowing the symptoms to exist through spiritual warfare.

“…for the one who has doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind” (James 1:6).

I will frequently counsel people about these symptoms and instruct them to continue to claim healing over their body in the name of Jesus.  Charles Capps wrote a great book entitled “The Tongue-A Creative Force,” where he says,

You may have a runny nose.  You may have aches all over.  That is how you feel, but what are you going to SAY about it?…Satan has come on the scene, and he distorts these things, and he has found out that his ability is limited to what he can get you to say…THE WORD SAYS YOU’RE HEALED.

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed’ (1 Peter 2:24).”

Not going to be–WERE HEALED–Jesus already did it two thousand years ago.  He’s not going to do any more to heal you.  You lay hold on what he said and deny that sickness has the right to exist in your body.  Lay hold upon it by faith, confess the WORD OF GOD over it, and say, “I may be hurt, BUT IN THE NAME OF JESUS I AM NOT SICK.”

I preface the account of this healing with Charles Capps’ words because Alex, the young man who experienced healing this morning, was already healed of the same illness a few months prior.  The symptoms came back.  This time, my friend Les and I spent more time instructing him on how to fight the enemy and permanently OWN the healing.

By the way, if you have surrendered your will to Jesus Christ, these words are relevant to you also (both for your healing and for you healing others).  The power of the cross has not weakened in 2000 years.  It is available to all who will call on the name of Jesus.

For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day (John 6:40).

Notice from the following verses that what happened on the cross is both for the forgiveness of sins and also for physical healing.  As far as God is concerned, salvation is a package deal…only people try to separate it.

Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit…(Psalm 103:2-4).

So here’s what happened…

This morning, when the prayer teams were called forward, Alex came to me and my friend Les.  He asked that we pray for his right leg.  Several months ago, Alex was in a car accident requiring surgery for a broken rib and ankle.  He has had pain in the entire leg ever since the accident.

Alex:

The pain is so bad that 20 minutes ago (during the sermon), I had to go to my car and wrap my ankle.  Look at my face…The pain is so bad I am sweating.

Me:

On a scale from 1 to 10, how bad is the pain?

Alex:

It is an 8.

We began praying.  I rebuked the damage and the pain in the name of Jesus.  I claimed total healing over Alex’ body in Jesus’ name.

Me:

Did you feel anything as I was praying?

Alex:

Yes.  The pain went to a 3!  That’s amazing!

I asked Alex to move the foot and leg around a little bit.  I told him that we were going to pray again to bring the pain from a 3 to a zero, but as we were discussing God’s goodness, the pain disappeared from his leg!

Alex:

There is nothing!!  No pain!

Alex started running around the front of the church and even hopping on his leg.  He was silly with joy.

Alex:

Now I can play soccer!!

Luke 5:24-26…
