Last Wednesday, I received an email from my Associate Pastor Mark.
I don’t know if you know Joel and his friends from Texas who are planting a surfer church down in Ocean Beach. I think maybe you met them at church some time in the last few months. Anyway…we are going to have an afternoon of Q&A and then prophetic ministry….I would really like for you to come. Let me know ASAP so I can confirm or not. We are talking about 2:00 to 6:00PM.
I enthusiastically confirmed since it has been some time since last practicing this particular gift. Every time I practice the gift of prophecy (like practicing anything…including healing), the gift grows and my understanding of it increases. This event would be no exception.
Paul, speaking to the church in Corinth…
“Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy” (1 Corinthians 14:5).
We met at Les and Dawnette’s house Sunday after church. There were 7 or 8 people from Texas who were doing the church plant and they were hungry to learn. The Q & A was helpful, but when it came time for prophecy, Mark, Les, and Dawnette had words of prophecy for the 1st person in line…I had nothing. Then, for whatever reason, the four of us received detailed prophetic words for all of the remaining group.
What surprised and encouraged me was that much of what we received complimented what someone else received. I don’t have a lot of experience in prophecy, so maybe that’s normal when it’s done with a group like that, but I found it very encouraging.
As we finished, one of the guys named Justin asked if we could pray for his back. He expressed that he was experiencing sharp pain in the lower-right side of his back that was an 8 on a scale from 1 to 10. Les, Dawnette, and I laid our hands on his back and rebuked pain and damage in the name of Jesus. We commanded healing.
Did you feel anything as we were praying?
I don’t remember what Justin felt, but it was some sensation that encouraged all of us.
How does your back feel? Move your back around and test it out.
It’s down to a 4!
We thanked God for the evidence that He was doing something and then asked God to complete what He had begun. We claimed complete healing in His name.
Test it out.
Justin wiggled around and moved his back every which way.
It’s gone! The pain is a zero!
It was obvious that Justin was excited! We were too, but it was awesome to see how grateful and excited he was.
As the evening came to a close, Les and I talked about how valuable it was to practice the gift of prophecy, but how Justin’s healing was the cherry on top!
